Christopher Beckwith, an intriguing new presence on the literary horizon, has been hailed as an author to watch. He was born in Charlotte, North Carolina and has resided in Atlanta since 1970. Although Beckwith has spent most of his life in Atlanta, he considers both cities home.
Formerly employed in the corporate arena, Beckwith found life unfulfilling and yearned for a more rewarding means of making his mark on the world. Craving a better life for himself and a chance to make a difference in the lives of others, he began toying with the idea of becoming a published author. Writing began as a hobby for this talented novelist but soon became his passion. Following the examples of E. Lynn Harris, Eric Jerome Dickey and James Earl Hardy, Beckwith's work reveals an astute sense of imagery as witnessed in his debut novel 'What's in it for me?'
After completing the well-received book, Beckwith sought new opportunities to quench the thirst for his newfound love of Urban Lit. Building on the book's accolades, he delved into the world of playwriting as a co-writer on Urban Moon Production's stage play 'The Penis Monologues Live'. Writing monologues for the characters Alternative Penis, Big Penis and Sick Penis called on talents that this fledgling author never knew he possessed. But with determination and great coaching, he stepped into unfamiliar territory and faced the challenge head on! The triumph as a playwright solidifies him as a well-rounded writer.
Beckwith is a masterful storyteller with characters that will remind the reader of someone they know, if not themselves. In fact, to read his premier novel is to take part in a surreal experience that blurs the line between fact and fiction. His unique approach to dialog is sure to capture the reader's attention while making it almost impossible to put 'What's in it for me?' down before completing it!
From the Author
In my novel's short life, it has alredy achieved an incredible amount of success via the powerful medium of word of mouth publicity alone. 'What's in it for me?' quickly reached #2 on Outwrite Bookstore & Coffeehouse's Top Ten Books. Outwrite was recently voted 'Critic's Pick' for best independent bookstore by Creative Loafing Magazine (Atlanta) and is also the site where I was recently featured in my first reading and Q&A session. 'What's in it for me?' quickly developed a following and practically everyone who has been introduced to the book has purchased a copy. Even casual readers have found themselves compelled to purchase the book after reading only the first few pages. I am consistently receiving positive feedback and encouragement from readers using adjectives like, 'tear jerker, affirming, motivating, inspirational, and life-changing'. It is with heartfelt thanks that I say how sincerely grateful I am!
